Vehicle Tracking Solutions

EDM Electronics Division has released, in collaboration with Geovision, a leading GIS company, a Vehicle Tracking System project. The project involves the design (manufacture) and implementation of a tracking system which uses a system composed of Vehicle Units and GIS application and aimed to help monitoring and tracking the movement of a single or fleet of vehicles in an urban environment. EDM will design and manufacture the mobile 'in-car' unit referred as the vehicle tracking system. The mobile unit will receive GPS data from the satellites and it will forward this data to the base station unit. The data will then be processed to extract the vehicle's heading, speed and location. This data will then be displayed on-screen to the user at the base station.
The objective of this project is to further the development of a system capable of tracking a fleet of vehicles. The system could be used, for example, by police departments to better serve and protect the public. The system would allow police dispatchers to monitor the exact location of all mobile units on patrol, enabling them to dispatch the nearest available unit to the scene of crimes, accidents and emergencies with greater efficiency. Computer aided dispatch (CAD) software could be developed in association with this system. The software could automatically deploy medical technicians, firefighters and others to the location of accidents and emergencies in response to requests from officers.

Basic Features
